Pocket alchemy in the golden hour.

I ditched Instagram and Facebook years ago, but that doesn’t mean I stopped taking pictures of my dogs and our adventures together.

The Darkroom is a digital scrapbook, a place where I can memorialize the dogs, the people, and the places I love. I used to tote around an Olympus camera, trying to capture as many of these moments as possible. One day I realized I was spending more time fumbling with the aperture and not enough time simply enjoying the moment at hand. Most of my photos are now the by-product of pocket alchemy - taken with an iPhone that’s been set to shoot on “auto.”

Even though their pixels will never be as vibrant as the original subjects, and the screen will never smell of fresh gunpowder, one day, when my feet can no longer carry me afield, I will still have this scrapbook to look back through. Here, I will see the evidence of a life well-lived and dogs well-loved.
