The Darkroom

A Gun Dog Yoga Gallery

Pocket alchemy in the golden hour.

I ditched Instagram and Facebook years ago, but that didn’t mean I stopped taking pictures of my dogs and our adventures together.

The Darkroom is a digital scrapbook, a place where I can memorialize the dogs, the people, and the places I love. I used to tote around an Olympus camera, trying to capture as many of these moments as possible. Then one day, I realized I was spending more time fumbling with the aperture and not enough time simply enjoying the moments the viewfinder could never truly grasp. Most of my photos are now the by-product of pocket alchemy - taken with an iPhone that’s been set to shoot on “auto.”

I’ve learned to accept that the pixels will never be as vibrant as their original subject. The glass on which they glow will never fill my nostrils with the scent of burnt gun powder in the crisp autumn air. I’m okay with that because one day, when I can no longer pursue memories like these on foot, I can return here to this digital scrapbook. Here, I will see the evidence of a life well-lived, dogs well-loved, and a wife truly cherished.
